Wix website cost: what UK small businesses pay

What do you pay Wix for each year?

You pay for a Premium plan, which Wix needs before you can connect your own domain and remove Wix branding. The Wix plans page lists Light, Core, Business and Business Elite, and says displayed prices are yearly subscriptions paid in full, varying by location.

Because the price depends on where you are, we have not printed a figure that could be wrong for you. When we checked on 29 October 2026, the page filled in its prices after loading. Open it from the UK, choose the plan you need and write down the total you pay today, not the monthly equivalent.

There is a free plan, but it keeps Wix branding and does not let you use your own domain. Most businesses treat it as a way to try the editor rather than a website to trade from.

What happens to the free domain after year one?

It renews at the normal domain price. Wix says most Premium plans include a one-year domain voucher, valid only for a new domain bought from Wix and only with your first Premium plan. Claiming it means entering payment details so the domain can renew after the first year.

Wix's guide to the free domain voucher also says the voucher lasts two months from the date you buy your plan. Miss that window and you pay for the domain from the start. The voucher does not cover these:

• A domain you already own and want to keep or renew
• Renewing your plan in year two
• Upgrading from one plan to another

Which extra costs do small businesses forget?

Most surprise costs come from things the plan price does not cover. Add each one to your two-year total before you compare Wix with anything else, because a cheap plan with three paid extras can cost more than a dearer plan that includes them.

• Business email on your own domain, if you want one
• Paid apps for bookings, reviews or forms
• Card payment fees if you sell online
• Design help if you would rather not build the site yourself
• Your own time to write pages, add photos and keep details current

Your time is the cost most owners leave out. If building and updating the site takes a weekend each quarter, count those hours at whatever an hour of your work is worth to you.

If you trade as a limited company, the government's rules on company websites say your site must show your registered number, registered office address and where the company is registered. It is a small job on any platform, but someone has to do it.

How do you work out your real two-year cost?

Add up everything you will pay across 24 months, then divide by 24. Use the yearly price you pay today, the domain renewal from month 13, every app and mailbox, and any one-off design fee. That gives you a monthly figure you can compare fairly with a managed plan.

Here is an illustrative way to lay it out for a small trades business. It is a worked example with placeholder items, not a quote.

1. Year one plan, paid up front on the day you sign up
2. Year two plan renewal, at whatever the price is then
3. Domain renewal at the start of year two
4. Apps, mailboxes and payment fees for both years
5. Hours spent building and updating, at your hourly value

Wix's plans page offers a full refund if you cancel within 14 days of your first Premium upgrade. Use that fortnight to build one real page and time how long it takes you, then put that time into the sum.

When is a managed website better value than Wix?

When your time is worth more than the difference in price. Wix suits owners who enjoy building and will keep the site current themselves. A managed website suits owners who want the build, updates and fixes handled for them, for one monthly price with nothing to pay upfront.
