Someone booking a wedding photographer, a family shoot or product photos wants to see work like theirs first. Then come the practical questions: what you shoot, where you travel, roughly what it costs and whether you are free on their date. A portfolio on its own answers the first question and leaves the rest to an email.

Put those answers next to the pictures. Group your galleries by the kind of shoot, say what each package includes and make the enquiry form ask for the date, the location and the type of shoot. You can then reply with availability, rather than a list of questions.

There are three usual routes, and the bills look very different. Startups.co.uk's UK guide (updated 23 March 2026) puts website builders at £1.99 to £259 a month and a web designer at £300 to £10,000+ upfront. GoDaddy's UK guide (1 May 2026) budgets a basic designer-built site at £5,315 for the first year, including a £4,500 design fee, then £815 or more each year. Neither guide is specific to photographers.

Whichever route you choose, budget for the ICO data protection fee if you have to pay it. For payments made on or after 17 February 2025 the tier 1 fee is £52; the ICO's self-assessment tells you whether you need to pay and which tier applies. Illustrative enquiry: a couple planning a wedding next summer look through your wedding gallery, read what your full-day package includes and see that you travel to their venue. They send the date, the venue and a rough start time through the form. You check your diary and reply with your availability and the package details.
