Who searches for a Portsmouth business, and what do they need to see first?

Portsmouth customers search by district, so your website should say whether you work on the island, on the mainland or both. Then it should answer three questions quickly: what you do, whether you reach the customer’s street, and how to contact you today.

Portsmouth is a port city and unitary authority in Hampshire. Most of it sits on Portsea Island in the Solent, which makes it the only city in England not located mainly on the mainland (Portsmouth (read 30 October 2026)). It is 74 miles south-west of London and 22 miles south-east of Southampton. With a population of 211,475 in 2025, it is the most densely populated city in the United Kingdom, and it forms part of the South Hampshire urban area, which has about 860,000 residents.

The city does not stop at the shore. Its boundaries were extended onto the mainland between 1920 and 1932, taking in Paulsgrove, Wymering, Cosham, Drayton and Farlington, and Portsmouth was granted city status in 1926. Portsea Island is separated from the mainland by Portsbridge Creek, crossed by three road bridges (the M275, the A3 and the A2030), a railway bridge and two footbridges. With water between the island and the mainland districts, a page that names the districts and postcodes you cover tells a customer at once whether you reach them. For other towns we serve, see all our locations.

From the Point to Port Solent: what is your customer deciding?

Seven parts of Portsmouth and what each customer is deciding
Old Portsmouth and the PointA visitor choosing a pub, a meal or a harbour walk. Old Portsmouth is the original medieval town planned by Jean de Gisors, in the south-west corner of Portsea Island, and its roads still largely follow their original layout. It holds Portsmouth Cathedral, the Round Tower and the entrance to the harbour, and the city’s small fishing fleet and fish market are at Camber docks. Pubs, restaurants and fish sellers should put opening hours, a menu and how to find them on the first screen.
Gunwharf Quays and the harbour frontA day visitor or ferry passenger planning a few hours. Gunwharf Quays opened to the public on 28 February 2001 on the old Gun Wharf site, and the 170 m Spinnaker Tower beside it opened on 18 October 2005. Portsmouth Harbour station next door is a transport terminal with ferry services to Gosport and the Isle of Wight. Guides, cafés and boat-trip operators should state times, prices and the walk from the station.
The Historic Dockyard and the naval baseA defence buyer, a naval family or a museum visitor. HMNB Portsmouth is one of three operating bases for the Royal Navy and home base for two-thirds of its surface fleet, including both aircraft carriers. The Historic Dockyard inside it is open to the public, with the Mary Rose, HMS Victory and HMS Warrior. Suppliers should say exactly what they make or service, with a quote form; services for naval families should explain how they work around postings and deployments.
SouthseaA local or visitor picking a café, salon or show. Southsea is a seaside resort at the southern end of Portsea Island, named after Southsea Castle, a fort built in 1544. Palmerston Road is its main high street, and Albert Road has shops and cultural venues, including Kings Theatre, built in 1907. Southsea Common, between Clarence Pier and the castle, hosts events such as the Victorious Festival. Cafés, salons and venues should keep hours, bookings and event-day notices current.
Fratton and North EndA neighbour hiring a trade or a fan on match day. Fratton is a residential and formerly industrial area where Victorian terraced houses dominate, and nearby Fratton Park, home of Portsmouth F.C. in neighbouring Milton, holds 20,867. North End grew after a horse-drawn tram route opened between Portsmouth and Cosham, and London Road is its main shopping street. Trades should list the roads they cover; takeaways and pubs should publish match-day hours.
Cosham, Drayton and the mainlandA family comparing home services, or hospital staff on a shift pattern. Cosham High Street is a significant local shopping centre, and the Queen Alexandra Hospital at the foot of Portsdown Hill is the major hospital for south-east Hampshire and south-west West Sussex. Drayton sits astride Havant Road, a part-commercial, part-residential street. Builders, cleaners and childcare providers should state the streets they reach and opening hours that suit shift workers.
Port Solent, Hilsea and the north of the islandA boat owner, a new resident or a gym member. Port Solent, in Paulsgrove, combines a marina, housing, shopping and leisure on land reclaimed from Portsmouth Harbour in the late 1980s. Hilsea has the Mountbatten centre, one of the city’s main sports and leisure facilities, the Hilsea Lines nature reserve and a lido that reopened in July 2014. Marine services, coaches and instructors should show session times, prices and a simple booking route.

(read 30 October 2026); North End (read 30 October 2026); Cosham (read 30 October 2026); Drayton (read 30 October 2026); Port Solent (read 30 October 2026); Hilsea (read 30 October 2026). The website recommendations above are our proposed approach. They are not reports of client work or results.

How do we plan for commuters, students, ferry passengers and the navy?

Commuters: the city has several mainline stations with trains to London Victoria and London Waterloo (Portsmouth (read 30 October 2026)). Portsmouth Harbour is the end of the Portsmouth Direct line to Waterloo (Portsmouth Harbour station (read 30 October 2026)), and Cosham offers three railway routes to London (Cosham (read 30 October 2026)). Many customers find you on the train, so the website does the selling on a phone: clear prices, real photos and a form that takes a minute.

Students: the University of Portsmouth became Portsmouth Polytechnic in 1969 and gained university status in 1992. In 2022 it had around 28,280 students, the 25th-largest UK higher education institution by enrolment (University of Portsmouth (read 30 October 2026)). Landlords, tutors, cafés and print shops should organise their pages around term dates, student prices and opening hours.

Ferry and cruise passengers: Portsmouth International Port is the second busiest in the United Kingdom after Dover, handling around three million passengers a year (Portsmouth (read 30 October 2026)). It opened in 1976 and is owned and operated by Portsmouth City Council (Portsmouth International Port (read 30 October 2026)). Hotels, taxis and cafés near the port should show early opening times, how to book and how far they are from the terminal.

The navy and defence: ten per cent of Portsmouth’s workforce is employed at the naval dockyard, and defence is the city’s biggest industry (Portsmouth (read 30 October 2026)). Engineering firms, suppliers and services for service families should explain what they do in plain English, with the credentials the owner can prove and a direct way to request a quote.

Visitors and events: the Historic Dockyard, Southsea seafront and the events on Southsea Common bring people who have never been before, and the city council bid on 28 November 2025 to become UK City of Culture 2029 (Portsmouth (read 30 October 2026)). Businesses that rely on visitors should make the first screen answer three things: where you are, when you are open and what it costs. Our websites for trades follow the same approach for local services.

How do we serve Portsmouth from Ilford?

Buzzozo Ltd works from 1022 Eastern Avenue, Ilford IG2 7SE, in east London; that is the address in our company details. We do not have a Portsmouth office or branch, and nothing on this page claims local clients or results. Most of the work runs remotely by phone, WhatsApp and email, and every draft arrives as a link you open on your own phone or laptop. A meeting in person can be arranged on request.

  1. Name your districts and postcodes. Tell us which parts you cover, whether that is Old Portsmouth, Southsea, Fratton, North End, Cosham, Drayton or Port Solent, and the postcodes where you stop. We use the names your customers use, such as Southsea or PO4, not a council boundary.
  2. Pick the one action. Calls, quote requests, table bookings, tour bookings or a link to the booking system you already use. Name the inbox and the number that should receive each one.
  3. Sign off every local detail. The business owner approves place names, services, photos, opening hours and prices. We do not invent reviews, results or evidence to fill a gap.
  4. Try the real website first. The free 14-day trial gives you a working website to use on your own phone and laptop. No card is needed, and you can cancel any time.
  5. Tell us when things change. We run Buzzozo cloud hosting, SSL and software upkeep. Send us new prices, menus or seasonal hours and we update them; anything beyond the plan’s agreed scope is quoted before work starts.

For instance, a harbour tour operator near the Point might lead with sailing times and a booking link. A plumber in Drayton might put the roads covered and a quote form first. These are planning examples, not named projects or promised outcomes.

Try your own website free for 14 days, no card needed. If you already have a website, tell us which enquiry routes you want to keep.

What does the fixed £149 a month include?

The Website plan is £149 a month, fixed, for the first 100 businesses, and the price is kept for life. You pay monthly with no contract and can cancel any time. Prices exclude VAT where applicable, and larger or more complex websites are quoted. The first 14 days are free, no card needed.

Below, each part of the plan sits beside what premium providers typically charge when it is bought on its own. The figures are rounded from UK list prices we checked on 28 and 29 October 2026. Treat them as a guide, not a quote; providers change their prices.

Your Portsmouth website design questions

Do you have a website design office in Portsmouth?

No. Buzzozo Ltd is based at 1022 Eastern Avenue, Ilford IG2 7SE, in east London, and works with Portsmouth businesses remotely by phone, WhatsApp and email. We do not claim a Portsmouth office, branch or local client on this page.

Do you cover Southsea, Cosham, Drayton and Port Solent?

Yes, along with Old Portsmouth, Fratton, North End, Eastney, Hilsea and Paulsgrove, and firms across the water in Gosport or further along the coast. Your own website names only the places your business actually serves.

What does the Website plan cost?

£149 a month, fixed, for the first 100 businesses, and that price is kept for life. Prices exclude VAT where applicable. Larger or more complex websites are quoted, and the plans page lists the full scope.

Can we meet in person?

Yes, a meeting in person can be arranged on request. Most projects never need one: we work by phone, WhatsApp and email, and drafts arrive for you to check on your own phone.

Should my website say Portsmouth or Southsea?

Use the words your customers search with. Southsea still has its own post town and the PO4 and PO5 postcodes, so a Southsea café may lead with Southsea, while a trade covering the whole city leads with Portsmouth and lists its districts.

How does the free 14-day trial work?

We build a real website on our hosting for you to try. The first 14 days are free and no card is needed. Keep it and it stays live on your chosen plan; stop and it comes down, with nothing to pay. There is no contract, so you can cancel any time.
